ALANNA BAIRD / ST. ANDREWS, NB
Alanna Baird is one of New Brunswick’s most diverse artists. Best known for her playful sculpture in recycled metal, she is also an accomplished ceramicist, printmaker, and most recently, plastic calligrapher.
Her recent work involves revisiting her early raku fired ceramic pieces. The Sea Urchin Series involves working across multiple mediums: printmaking, bronze, and plastic calligraphy. This series involves the complexity of silicone mold making, wax casting and altering, and ceramic shell mold making towards bronze, all centered on shell patterns of sea urchins. Surface patterns have been explored through lino prints. Most recently she has been exploring plastic through the use of a 3D printing pen, challenging the perception of value of material. Alanna’s contribution to both the New Brunswick Craft and Art communities has been quietly prolific.
