"My work focuses on nature and our place in it. The work cannot be separated from my life: place and history are bedrock. Issues of simplicity, complexity and emotional response to the environment are the underpinnings. Painting for me is about the present moment, experiencing, noticing, processing clearly and with feeling my direct experiences. The time I spend painting is time spent with me, it is actually quite a spiritual practice. I feel present and connected to life in a very immediate and calming way.The intention behind my work is not to create realistic representations of nature but to express my internal feelings and reactions in response to it."
